MICHAEL HANEY AND SONIA WANG SELECTED TO USA SWIMMING WESTERN ZONE CAMP

Congratulations to Sonia Wang, 13 and Michael Haney, 15 for their selection to the 2010 USA Swimming Western Zone Select Camp. The camp is designed for the up-and-coming young swimmers in each zone of the U.S.A. The camp will be held at Arizona State University on May 27-30, 2010. Sonia’s selection was based on her sizzling summer times and her IMX challenge score. Michael was chosen because of his super fast long course 13-14 200 meter fly this past summer.
In addition, USA Swimming has asked Noelle Tarazona to be the guest speaker at the Zone Camp. Noelle will represent the National Youth Team and will participate with the Zone Camp athletes.
This is a huge accomplishment for these three young swimmers, and we hope they enjoy the experience!

TARAZONA HEATS UP AT WINTER INVITATIONAL BREAKS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SWIM RECORD

Posted Jan. 1, 2009: It was definitely chilly outside Belmont Plaza (in Long Beach), at the 2008 Winter Invitational, but inside TCC swimmer Noelle Tarazona was on fire. Noelle broke an eight-year-old Southern California Swimming record in the 15-16 girl's 200 yard butterfly. The former record (1:57.53) was held by Kaitlin Sandeno, a two-time USA Olympian. Noelle won the event establishing a new SCS record in a 1:57.23. "I knew Noelle was going to break the two minute mark but was surprised how far under she went. She looked like a million dollars," said a very happy coach John. " I don't think she could have had a better meet. Every swim was great."
Noelle also won the 400 I.M. in a lifetime best time of 4:13.92 and the 200 I.M. in a 2:02.38. Noelle finished 2nd in the 200 back (2:00.70). 4th in the 100 fly (55.55) and 9th in the 200 breast (2:18.15).
Congratulations Noelle on this super-duper achievement!!
Other outstanding performances were turned in by:
Sam Jardine winning the 1,000 freestyle, just missing his first Junior cut, in a sizzling 9:29.68. Sam had lifetime bests in the 200 free (1:43.16), placing 9th, and in the 500 free (4:40.34), placing 5th.
Winner Sa-Nguansap finished 7th in the 200 fly and 13th in the 200 breast (2:11.63).
Oriana Wang scored in the 400 I.M., placing 12th (4:30.49), 17th in the 100 free and 18th in the 200 free.

HOLIDAY PANCAKES A HIT!

Posted Jan. 1, 2009: Was it Dasher! Was it Vixen! Was it Comet! No, it was Janice Whittington and her TCC elves!! Yes, the yummiest holiday pancakes were served right on the TCC pool deck by Janice and her special cooks - Mr. Haney, Mr. Jardine, Mr. Whittington and Mr. Wang. To the swimmer's delight, chocolate chips were added to this year's menu along with a choice of apple cider or pomegranate juice for the parents. Mr. Gabel, Mrs. Fuertez and Mrs. Dominquez added additional help while John Haney and Mr. Dealy took pictures of our hungry swimmers. Thanks to all of you - it was awesome!!
